n a meeting with media in
           New York city, Chancellor
        IDavid C. Banks stunned
        the audience with unbelievable
        facts. He with his Deputies
shared dark facts of America as
        the nation faces huge challenges
with lack of proficiency to even
        read. Said Chancellor Banks,
        “Today about 60% of Latino
        and Black community don’t
        have reading proficiency. Even
        the most glorified Asians and
        white are about 30%. Almost
1.2 million drop out causing an
        annual loss of $2.2 Trillion”.
            Mayor Eric Adam’s has
        identified education as a core
sector to improve for the city. A
        self-educated Mayor Adams is a
role model as he has grown with
education. He is keen to help
the city youth transcend to next
        level with better education.
            The meeting was attended
        by in Deputy Chancellors Ms.
        Carolyne Quintana, Ms. Kara
        Ahmed and Ms. Daniel Rux.
Ms. Quintana said with 1% in-
        crease in proficiency the nation
        can gain $240 billion annually.
            Citywide, Detroit AR 91%
and Rochester at 81% are the
        lowest while the Silicon Valley
        neighboring San Francisco is at
        45%. The incarcerated adults
are at 70% with little hope to
        improve.
            Chancellor shared NYC
        plans under leadership of May-
or Adams to improve the edu-
        cation. “We can’t neglect the
        demands of education and have
to go on a war front”. Our chil-
dren are the future and read-
ing proficiency is the first step.
        While we aspire to compete
with the world as it turns digital,
we have focus on core and ba-
        sics,” said Ms Quintana.
            All the officials addressed
        media questions and requested
        for support to build awareness
to implement the plans to raise
        educational standards of our
        youth.
