        jersey city hosts ‘biggest’ outdoor navaratri event

              he outdoor Navratri celebrations in
              Jersey City held on two weekends
       TOct. 8-9 and Oct. 15 and 16, is being
        described by organizers as the “biggest”
        in the nation, coming as it does, after 2
        years of restrictions during the Covid-19
        pandemic. Thousands of people showed
        up and enjoyed the festivities, many wear-
        ing colorful traditional Indian clothing.
            Several  Jersey  City  officials  also
        joined the crowd in prayers and gave
        speeches, including Mayor Steven Fulop,
        Councilman Richard Boggiano from
        Ward C, and Amy DeGise, candidate for
        Councilwoman-at-Large for Jersey City.
            The events were organized by exec-
        utives of the Asian Merchants Associ-
        ation  along  with  the  Govinda Sanskar
        Center, and sponsored by among others,
        Bhavesh Patel, a businessman in Jer-
        sey City. Raju Patel, president of Asian
        Merchants Association, Suresh  Patel
        (Mukhia), co-founder of the Garba
        dance function, Lalu Dhanani who was
        in charge of outreach, and Jagdish Pa-
        tel, secretary of AMA, were among the
        main organizers.
