                   Too Much Bumrah, Too Little

                 Backup: India’s Over-Reliance

                                 Exposed in Test Series

India’s dependence on Jasprit Bumrah and a series of costly dropped catches raise serious

concerns about the team’s bowling strategy as they trail England 0-1 in the five-Test series

eeds — India’s opening Test defeat at Head-
ingley has laid bare an uncomfortable truth:
Lthe team’s over-dependence on pace ace
Jasprit Bumrah, coupled with substandard catching
and an underperforming bowling unit, threatens to
        derail their campaign in England.
Despite a spirited five-wicket haul from Bum-
rah in the first innings, India succumbed to a record
371-run chase by England on the final day. Bumrah
went wicketless in the second innings, and with little
support from the rest of the pace unit, India’s bowl-
        ing frailties were brutally exposed.
            “Managing Bumrah’s workload is non-nego-
tiable,” head coach Gautam Gambhir told report-
ers after the loss. “He was always going to play only
three of the five Tests. We’ve made that decision
keeping in mind the long season ahead.”
The plan is clear: preserve Bumrah’s fitness
following his recent back stress reaction. Yet, critics
question the logic of resting him when India are al-
