        Innovation Lab at Purdue, Varma’s
        work  in  fire-resistant  and  seismic
        design has led to changes in nation-
        al building codes and approval of
        high-profile  projects,  from  nuclear
        plants to high-rises.
            “Steel-concrete  composites  are
        efficient  and  innovative,”  said  Var-
        ma. “They allow for safer, faster, and
        cost-effective construction.”
            His innovations, such as the
        SpeedCore system, have accelerated
        construction timelines and improved safety standards nationwide. Varma also
        received the T.R. Higgins Lectureship Award for his work.
            A longtime AISC collaborator, Varma joined Purdue in 2004 and is now
        considered a global expert in steel structure design.
